宁夏人民豪气壮，
振臂建设大银川。
牵住时光赶日月，
托起彩虹绘新天。
大路高楼出塞上，
湖光绿色又江南。
放飞小康六百里，
牵住黄河上六盘。
New Canals Built in Yinchuan
September 1，2003
Beside the Yellow River and at the foot of the Mount Helan，
In autumn days a landscaping project is done；
With newly built canals，the city's three districts connected，
And now it is winded with five lagoons and four lakes.
Long years of continued endeavours and long time dreaming
Have created this scene and add among city's new sights；
With more winds under my wings，
I expect that the city could reach her new heights.
银川景观水道建成

两岸秋色一山情，①
五湖四海三边城。②
景观水道通，
银川添新景。
梦圆多少回，
今日得成功。
乘发展东风，
再上九霄重。
注：①两岸：黄河两岸；一山：贺兰山。
②五湖四海：银川市恢复昔日湖泊的自然景观初见成效，前不久，市委、市政府为塞上湖城水系冠名，取“五湖四海”之意，其中四个较大的湖泊命名为海，其余较小的五个取名为湖；三边城：银川市兴庆区、金凤区、西夏区。

Which everyone in the City of Phoenix helps to celebrate.
Since the time when we got the flame north of the Great Wall，
That landmark becomes the claim to our fame.
After full preparations of four years，
Now the whole nation keeps her eyes and sees what we can fulfill；
Only with high hopes and hard work we have done，
Could a small province strive fora greater success still.
第七届全国少数民族传统体育运动会
（2003年9月14日）
中华人民共和国第七届少数民族传统体育运动会9月6日在宁夏回族自治区首府银川市隆重举行，9月13日胜利闭幕。运动会举办得非常成功，各方面给予东道主宁夏和运动会较高评价。作为组委会主任，我心情十分激动，以诗抒怀，与全区人民分享这份快乐。
流光溢彩金秋月，
万众欢腾凤凰城。
塞上儿女燃圣火，
举力全区扬大名。
斗移四载千般苦，
星转百年世纪情。
小省只因志高洁，
昂首奋蹄生雄风。
On 10th Anniversary of the Twinning Partnership with Shimane

My gaze roams over the boundless stretch of lush countryside，
When I walk around the Shinjiko Lake；
After having a bath in the on sen spa，
I deem it best time to savor in the clam soup a local taste；
This sojourn across the sea away from home，
But it always reminds me how friendly ties are kept alive；
Every small step brings high hopes.
中国宁夏与日本岛根建立友好区县十周年
（2003年11月3日）
2003年10月30日率团赴日本参加中国宁夏回族自治区与日本岛根县建立友好区县十周年纪念活动，随行的还有宁夏经济代表团和艺术团，纪念活动很顺利，达到了预期目的，以诗记之。
驻足宍道湖，①眺望葱茏岭。②净身泡温泉，品味蚬贝羹。③友邻衣带水，携手共珍重。虽然力些许，用心足可评。
注：①宍（音肉）道湖：日本岛根县所在地松江市内有一47平方公里的大湖，日本人在地图上标为“宍道湖”。
②葱茏岭：日本岛根县多山多水，山头皆被乔木覆盖，多为常青树，植被极好。
③蚬贝羹：道湖内生长着一种小型贝类，曰蚬贝，产量占日本国的三分之一，煨汤味道极为鲜美。
Praise for Ningdong Chemical Base

On barren land east of Ningxia，and also for the first time
I hear excavators are rumbling，In gentle breeze，
I see the colorful buntings are fluttering，
And from loud speaker I hear a voice runs；
Breaking of the ground at the Erdos Tableland，
Out spraying from the underground is a dragon fire，
Within my tenure of post，I try to do all I can
And hopefully it lays a solid foundation for 2020；
When reflecting on mirror，surprisingly then I find
Grey temples I have already got；
Now I try to work hard and out sap my strength，
The sole reason is to repay the kindness of my homeland.
宁夏能源重化工基地礼赞

亘古荒塬掘机鸣，
彩旗猎猎喇叭声。
高台喧嚣尘封启，①
地火深藏将喷涌。
欲跨二零深奠基，②
将创任内重化工。
虑竭精殚镜两霜，
辛劳为酬家乡情。
注：①高台：鄂尔多斯台地。
②二零：指二零二零年。
Drought in Shan Gan Ning

For quite a 1，000 of lion the yellow-soiled tableland，
The fields are in baking hot，
And everywhere I found is withering and falling crops，
We meet with another famine year！
In the Northwest region，always so bad of the weather，
Seldom could I see is when the people beamed with smile.
Why does it occur such a long and serious drought here？
Vicious circle is by over-pasturing and wanton falling.
We are now waiting for the day
Of diverting the south water to the north，
Again I hope green spring come back to my hometown.
陕甘宁干旱带2004年旱象记

千里高原生赤烟，
满目焦枯又灾年。①
西北如此天地气，
百姓何时露笑脸。
天降久旱因何来？过牧滥垦环流变。②
冀希南水北调日，
春绿再返我家园。
注：①2004年上半年，陕甘宁干旱带几无降水，灾情重，驱车千里行，满目荒凉，令人心情沉痛。
②环流变：大气环流发生变化。
宁夏封山禁牧退耕还林初见成效
（2004年7月26日）
曾经植被铺地盖天，
树木森森大草甸，
雉飞豹突生态园。
而今胜景不见。
风沙高扬兮天昏地暗，
烈日炎炎兮旱象万千。
人多地少温饱艰难，
多垦过牧情理间，
未料想毁了家园。
天地交恶循环。
山荒岭秃兮断了企盼，
年复一年兮积贫难返。
西部开发再造河山，
退耕还林七百万，
全面禁牧长封山。
枯土始泛新颜。
美好愿望兮曙光渐现，
加快发展兮城乡巨变。
On Converting Farmland into Pastures

Here in the past years，the vegetation was once
Planked the earth and eclipsed the sky，
Towering trees and fresh grasses，with fowls and beasts inside；
But now this scene was gone，
When great wind comes forth，the sands rose on high
And when meets with a burning sun，drought is invited.
More people and less farmland
So over-grazing and de-vegetation is our big foe，
But who knows we have destroyed our beautiful homeland；
Since ever，a vicious circle we have meet year by year
With hills barren and land dry，
Our future hope reins，and year after year，
Removing poor is still a hard task.
The launching of the state West Development Project
Arises a helpful plan for making our homes new，
With farmland conversion，7 million mu of grasses planted；
Now all mountains are enclosed and livestock penned，
With a new look，our dream has eventually been realized.

The mountain is high，but over-peak the wind is warm，
Rising before me is appearance of the past battling scene.
Remembering those Red Army men，
When they reached the Ning-Gan-Shan，
Still I could hear is the charging of our brave men
With battle shooting and charge crying.
Now that the scene of propitious omen appears，
But I know，the work of shaking off poor.
Is harder than binding fast of the Grey Dragon.
Let me just pick up a cluster of white clouds，
And by using which I again draft us a better future plan.
