The University of Turku (Finnish： Turun yliopisto)， located in Turku in southwestern Finland， is the second largest university in the country as measured by student enrollment， after University of Helsinki. It was established in 1920 and also has faculties at Rauma， Pori and Salo. The academic history of Turku reaches all the way to the 13th century， when citizens of Turku went to study in the universities of Central Europe. In 1640， Finland’s first university， the Royal Academy of Turku， was founded by Queen Christina of Sweden.The University of Turku was established in 1920 with the help of a fund-raising campaign. The University of Turku was Finland’s first Finnish university. The university is a member of the Coimbra Group， a network of prestigious universities in Europe. The University of Turku shares a campus with .bo Akademi University and elements of Turku Science Park. The area also encompasses Turku University Hospital (TYKS) and the Student Village. The Administration Building and the surrounding complex was built in the fifties on what became to be known as the University Hill. The University of Turku is an ambitious， research-led university with seven faculties and twelve special units and interdisciplinary centres and internationally acknowledged expertise from humanities to medicine and natural sciences. The University of Turku is internationally known and recognised for its research and the University has broad spectrum and extensive international contacts in science.

City show： Turku is a city on the southwest coast of Finland at the mouth of the Aura River， in the region of Finland Proper. Today it remains a regional capital and an important business and cultural center. Due to its location， Turku is a notable commercial and passenger seaport with over three million passengers travelling through the Port of Turku each year to Stockholm and Mariehamn. Cultural venues in Turku in-clude several theatres， cinemas， and art galleries， and a city philharmon-ic orchestra. The city’s cultural centre organises a number of regular events， most notably the Medieval Market in July each year.
